About Sheila

Sheila's Reels Ceilidh Band offer a great evening of dancing for all abilities. 2-4 musicians plus caller, according to the event/venue.
Ceilidh Caller
Hereford

Sheila has been calling ceilidhs for 25 years, the majority of which has been with Sheila's Reels Ceilidh Band and Ringerike, the Malvern based band of which she was a founder member. Classically trained as a pianist and singer, she discovered folk music while at college and has never looked back! It must be one of the best jobs you can have - putting smiles on people's faces and helping them have fun. Sheila's Reels is made up of a group of friends and very experienced folk musicians, and we play for English, Scottish and American "barn dance" events.

Customer questions

What if my timings change after I've booked you?

This isn't usually a problem - we try to be as flexible as possible to make sure you have a great event, and will always try to fit in with your timings.

Can you provide an iPod/DJ service before and between your sets?

We have the facility for you to attach your iPod/phone to our PA so that you can have your own playlist between sets, and don't charge for this. We'd be happy to discuss using our PA after the ceilidh, with a negotiable fee.

How much time do you need to set up?

This generally takes between 45-60 minutes and we would have a brief sound check before starting to play. We are happy to play recorded folk music prior to the dancing, should you wish.

Can I pick the pieces you play from the set list?

We are always happy to include dances you know, and can usually find a suitable tune! If there is something you would particularly like to include it's worth letting us know in advance. We have a lot of experience in arranging the dances so that those who are new to ceilidhs can learn the basic moves and find it easy to join in and have fun.

Do you bring all the equipment you need to perform?

Yes - we have our own instruments and PA. We have played many gigs with very little amplification and can adjust to most settings.

Can you learn specific pieces before the event?

We do have a very wide repertoire of ceilidh dances, and can also offer some vocals between dances. If there is something special you would like included we will do our very best and will let you know if there are any additional costs for rehearsals etc.

What do your clients love most about your performances?

We are very responsive to our audiences whether they are new to ceilidh or experienced dances, and offer a very "inclusive" event.

Which venues have you performed at in the past?

There is a long list of village halls, town halls, pubs, churches around Herefordshire, Worcestershire and Gloucestershire, along with most of the popular wedding venues in the area!

Which artists have you been most influenced by?

Traditional community folk dance bands

What is the most high profile gig you've performed?

Fund raising event for our local Community Arts Centre recently. We're not really a "high profile" band (though we'd be happy to play at festivals if we were asked, we have concentrated on private celebrations and community events)
