Percussionist, timpanist, drummer, educator and performer. Mostly working in South West England.

Shaun started drumming at the age of 8 and was gradually introduced to all percussion during his school years. At the age of 18 he accepted a place at the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama to study for a BMus (Hons) specialising in Percussion & Timpani. He had the priviledge of studying under some fantastic tutors including Chris Stock (Principal Percussion, BBC National Orchestra of Wales), Steve Barnard (Principal Timpani, BBC National Orchestra of Wales), Owen Gunnell (O-Duo, London Sinfonietta & BBC Symphony Orchestra) and Phil Girling (Associate Principal Percussion, Welsh National Opera). He was lucky enough to perform in the flagship ensembles of the college including the Symphony Orchestra, Concert Orchestra and Percussion Ensemble. He was also offered a place on the Welsh National Opera Orchestral Placement Scheme. This scheme led him to being employed by the orchestra for their touring production of Bizet's Carmen in September 2014. Since then Shaun has worked with some of the UK's top professional orchestra's on a freelance basis including BBC National Orchestra of Wales, Bristol Ensemble, Southern Sinfonia and Westminster Chamber Orchestra. He also performs regularly with many amateur and semi-professional orchestras including Frome Symphony Orchestra, Ludlow Symphony Orchestra, Mid Somerset Orchestra and New Bristol Sinfonia. As a drummer, Shaun has performed with a number of function bands and musical theatre productions, including working as Musical Director for Glastonbury & Street Musical Comedy Society's annual pantomime since 2018.

Customer questions

What if my timings change after I've booked you?

We always try our best to be flexible to help ensure your event runs as smoothly as possible. If timings change slightly in the run up to the event just let us know.

Can you provide an iPod/DJ service before and between your sets?

Absolutely. This is a really popular request and we actually offer this service for free. If you'd like a DJ service via our PA after the final set until the venue closes, we provide this for an additional £100.

How much time do you need to set up?

We usually set up about 1 to 1.5 hours before the performance time. As soon as our PA is set up we can provide a free playlist service to help set the atmosphere and get your guests ready for our live performance!

Can I pick the pieces you play from the set list?

Our set lists are crafted from countless performances and learning what works best to ensure guests dance and have an amazing time. However, we're definitely happy to chat through and make sure we find what works for your event.

Do you bring all the equipment you need to perform?

Yes, absolutely! I bring my own instrument to play acoustically.

Can you learn specific pieces before the event?

If a song isn't included in our song list there may still be a chance we already know it. If there is a special song you'd like us to learn we are happy to do this for you. There is a fee of £30 for this service to take into account rehearsal times etc.

We couldn't have asked anymore from the band. They really made the party! The song choices were great and had everyone up on their feet straight away! Couldn't recomend The New Midrod Ends enough.. all our guests commented on what great music! Even with the run up Shaun was extremely helpful. Thank you so much!!

Had an amazing night watching the New Midrod Ends in Leicester. They're a really talented band with a unique style that get everyone in the crowd, from young to old, singing and dancing along. Can't wait to go see them again at GlastonBudget in May. Thanks for a great night.

The New Midrod Ends were one of the earlier bands to appear at the GlastonBudget auditions and they really got the place going. Their set consisted of covers of Amy Winehouse, Madness and Tina Turner amongst others. The instrumentalists were excellent and were complemented by three great singers. I would imagine that they would be a great party band and I look forward to seeing them again at GlastonBudget in May.
