London

Sam Moffitt is a London based trumpeter who graudated from the Royal Academy of Music with a Distinction in his MA in 2015. Having studied classical trumpet, Sam now largely works as a lead player, and has worked with a variety of ensembles, including holding the trumpet chair for the Kenneth Branagh Theatre Company production of The Entertainer in the West End in 2016. He currently holds the 2nd trumpet chair in the National Youth Jazz Orchestra, and regularly appears with them on lead trumpet, as well as appearing with a number of function bands, and world music groups. At RAM, he played with the RAM Symphony Orchestra under Semyon Bychkov and Yan-Pascal Tortelier and Concert Orchestra under Edward Gardner, as well as playing in masterclasses with Eric Aubier, Reinhold Freidrich and Pacho Flores. He was taught modern trumpet by Paul Beniston, Mark David, Will O'Sullivan, Bob Farley and Rod Franks, as well as receiving natural (Baroque) trumpet lessons from Bob Farley and John Hutchins. Sam joined the Academy following a brief fling with academia at Brasenose College, Oxford University, where he studied Music and graduated in June 2013. Whilst at Oxford, he played as the principal trumpet with the University Orchestra and lead trumpet with the University Big Band, as well as playing with funk and soul cover group Dott’s Funk Odyssey, and gave a number of solo recitals in various college chapels. Outside of music, Sam is a lifelong and dedicated Portsmouth Football Club fan, and an expert armchair sportsman. He captained Brasenose College’s 2nd XI cricket team as well as featuring for the 1sts on a regular occasion, and came very close to winning the College Pool League with Brasenose, only to suffer heartbreak in the final game of the season and lose the league by 1 point.
