Sam started learning the violin at the age of four, and received his early tuition from his aunt Deborah Young, with whom he learned until the age of thirteen before moving to his current teacher Yumi Sasaki. He is currently studying Natural Sciences at Trinity College, Cambridge, where he plays with CUCO and CUMSSO and was accepted onto the Instrumental Awards Scheme for chamber music. Sam has played in groups such as Harry Ogg's Sinfonia D'Amici and the Janus Ensemble and in December 2011 he performed the Bruch violin concerto with the Melos Sinfonia and Oliver Zeffman. He was a member of the London Schools Symphony Orchestra for six years, leading the orchestra in his final year. He is also a keen trombone player.
