Aged 22, Rowan is from Glasgow and currently lives in Cambridge.
Rowan was awarded a Distinction for her ABRSM Performance Diploma on the cello. She was the recipient of the Calvert String Trophy from St. Mary's Music School, and received the "most promising young cellist" award from the Edinburgh Competition Festival.
Rowan has performed with the National Youth Orchestra of Scotland, Edinburgh University’s Chamber Orchestra, and the Cambridge University Music Society Symphony Orchestra. As an enthusiastic chamber musician, Rowan has performed in the Royal Northern College of Music’s chamber music festival, and was awarded a chamber music prize from the Edinburgh Competition Festival.
From the age of 17, Rowan was a choral scholar at Homerton College, Cambridge. She has performed as both a soprano and an alto soloist in various choral works, including Mozart’s Mass in C Minor, Handel’s Messiah, and Schubert’s Mass in B Flat. She received the ABRSM’s Elizabeth J Ehrlich award following her Grade 8 examination. Solo performance venues include St Martin-in-the-Fields and West Road Concert Hall.
A keen opera singer, Rowan has played the title role in Actéon, as well as Cherubino (The Marriage of Figaro) and Cupid (Venus and Adonis). She has also performed in the choruses of Cosi fan tutte, The Rake’s Progress, and Semele, in the last of which she sang the solo ‘Endless Pleasure’. She is also a keen recitalist, having most recently performed Schumann's Frauenliebe und -leben with pianist Natalie Jobbins.
Having previously sung with the National Youth Jazz Orchestra of Scotland, Rowan performed with the legendary Liane Carroll at the Glasgow Jazz Festival. She is now a member of the Cambridge-based band, Better Than TV, which has recently released an album and performs regularly throughout the city.
Rowan recently graduated with a degree in Psychology from Cambridge University and is now living in Cambridge.
