A Swiss-German cellist, Romana Kaiser was born in Zurich in 1990. She received her first cello lesson at the age of eight. Her extraordinary receptiveness and the natural relation to the cello had been early noticed by her first teacher, Kurt Hess. In 1999, Romana continued her studies with Nancy Chumachenco and in 2003, with Susanne Basler. After her Matura, Romana began studying with Thomas Grossenbacher at the Arts School in Zurich (ZHdK). In the summer of 2013, she completed her Master of Arts in Music Pedagogy with Distinction. She loves teaching students of various levels and age. Romana has also won several prizes. Recently she was awarded with 2nd prize at the Interpretation of Contemporary Music Competition 2013 in Zurich. She is also an experienced passionate chamber musician and thereby has had the great opportunity to perform a concert with the members of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra. In January 2014 she gave her debut at Barbican Hall in London with a chamber music piece by Sir Peter Maxwell Davies. Romana is currently learning from Richard Lester, studying her postgraduate programme of Orchestral Artistry at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. Her studies are generously supported by the Leverhulme Arts Trust and the foundation Irène Dénéréaz .
