Customer questions
What do your clients love most about your performances?
Aside from providing a professional, high quality performance, I think my clients appreciate the warm, interactive and human element experienced when working with me. It definitely helps when organising a wedding or other demanding event to be be able to rely on an assured, steady, and easy-going musician. Most clients sign off with: "It's been a pleasure".
Which venues have you performed at in the past?
So, so, so many by now - I've been performing full-time since I was 15.
I've been a pianist in both luxury hotels and crazy whiskey piano bars,
a guitarist at gentle folk festivals and also in rock bands,
a singer at hundreds of beautiful weddings and hundreds more wild hen and stag parties...
there aren't many venues and events I haven't experienced.
Which artists have you been most influenced by?
John Martyn,
Billy Joel,
Janis Joplin,
Bob Dylan,
Tom Waits,
Tracy Chapman,
AC/DC,
Johnny Cash,
various traditional folk music from Ireland and Scotland,
even The Prodigy, though they're difficult to cover on piano / guitar, they're certainly an influence!
Clearly I'm a man of eclectic taste!
What is the most high profile gig you've performed?
Most high profile event: probably at the Formula 1 Grand Prix in Bahrain.
Biggest crowd: to a few thousand people at the Boomtown Fair festival.
That said, whether I'm playing for 2 people or 2,000, every gig is a high profile gig for me. I'm always happy to play.
What if my timings change after I've booked you?
I will try to be as flexible as possible with timings, in particular for weddings and other similar events where timings may change slightly on the day.
How much time do you need to set up?
I would usually like to arrive an hour in advance of start time to setup and be ready to go.
The actual setup time itself may only take a few minutes, particularly for smaller events where I only need a small amplification system.
All in all, setup is usually a pretty straightforward process.
If I have a piano at my venue, are you happy to perform on that?
Absolutely!
It helps if the piano is in decent condition and is located in a part of the venue where guests are able to hear and see it. But yes, it's certainly an option.
Can I pick the songs you play from the set list?
You can indeed!
With a little bit of notice, you can even add songs to the setlist that aren't there yet - I can learn new material pretty quickly for a special event.
You're also welcome to sit back and leave it up to me entirely. I've played a few thousand shows at this stage so you'll be in safe hands, either way.
Are you able to bring your own piano or keyboard?
Yes, I have a really nice portable stage piano that I can bring with me when needed.
Can you learn song requests before the event?
Absolutely! Just give a little bit of notice to make sure I've time to learn it nicely. If it's just a few songs, there's no extra fee needed for that service. It's a pleasure to learn new music.
