Paul Israel is a young British Concert Pianist, performing extensively across the UK and Europe following studies with Leon McCawley.
Following his studies with concert pianist Leon McCawley in London, the young British pianist Paul Israel performs extensively as a recitalist and soloist. Giving recitals around the UK and Europe, Paul is currently working towards a series of music competitions, alongside concert performances. Paul, who began playing the piano aged 7, gained his BA Hons Degree (Distinction) in Music at the University of Bristol, and his Masters Degree in Piano Performance (Distinction) at the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama, studying under Richard McMahon. Throughout his education Paul won the Jacobson Recital Prize (with a prize winning recital featuring in The Guardian), the John Roberts Award for outstanding performances of the music of Beethoven, the Concerto Soloist prize, an Outstanding Achievement Award in composition, and was a highly commended finalist in the BBC Proms Young Composers Competition. Paul has performed in masterclasses to numerous world-renowned pianists including Paul Lewis, John Lill, Piers Lane, Christian Blackshaw, Leslie Howard, Louis Lortie, and musicians of the Berlin Philharmonic. Paul has visited the Royal Opera House following success as a finalist in the prestigious Royal Ballet Jette Parker Young Artists Programme, with an outstanding performance of Liszt’s Piano Sonata in B Minor. Paul also performs with violinist Emil Huckle-Kleeve (Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra) and is a member of a Piano Trio (featuring two players of the BBC National Orchestra of Wales). Paul is pianist of the Bristol Ensemble chamber orchestra, and also performs regularly for ‘New Music in the South West’, commissioning and premiering new classical music.
