Cellist
Manchester

After begging her parents for years to let her begin, Natalie started the cello aged 5. She learnt with Susanna Graham for the first 12 years, who studied at the Royal Northern College of Music and played in the Ulster Orchestra for many years, before changing to Naomi Butterworth in 2012, who works as a soloist and teacher at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music, who studied at the Royal Academy of Music. Natalie is very interested in chamber music of all kinds, and has played in piano trios and string quartets as well as less traditional groups such as a cello trio. As a piano trio, she has learnt many pieces including Beethoven "Ghost" and Dvorak "Dumky". As a quartet, she has played Schubert's Death and the Maiden at Snape Maltings Concert Hall, as well as for several weddings. In her current cello trio, she plays mostly pop covers and pop-classical crossover music. In orchestral playing, Natalie has covered a lot of repertoire, of which her favourites include Vaughan Williams' London Symphony, Shostakovich's Fifth Symphony and Britten's War Requiem. She was principal cellist of the Suffolk Yourth Orchestra for two years, and since coming to RNCM, she has sat on front desk for Concert Orchestra. In terms of Jazz crossover, she plays regularly in a Swing Orchestra, mainly covering songs by Michael Buble and Frank Sinatra. As a soloist, Natalie has played several recitals with piano, including the Chopin Cello and Piano Sonata in concert with JP Ekins, as well as performing in the Suffolk Festival many times whilst growing up. As a 17 year old, she won the Suffolk String Champion award after playing Martinu's Slovak Variations. She has also played Vivaldi's Concerto in G minor with orchestra in 2014. Natalie is interested in Classical music of all eras, as well as the more modern styles of jazz and pop. She adores playing as both a soloist and as part of different ensembles and loves experimenting with new styles.
