About Michael

Cor Anglais
London
Oboe/Cor Anglais player based in London, studying at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.

Michael began learning the oboe at the age of 10 with Rachel Ingleton, with whom he studied up until the age of 18. After 6 months of learning the oboe, Michael was awarded a music scholarship to his local secondary school. Aged 15, Michael was accepted into the London Schools Symphony Orchestra, where he would later become principal oboe and cor anglais player. With LSSO he performed at many major UK concert venues, as well as on tour in Poland and the Czech Republic. Michael later went on to become a member of the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain 2015, where he was awarded the cor anglais seat. In NYO, he performed across the UK under the batons of John Wilson, Ilan Volkov and Sir Mark Elder. With the orchestra he made his debut performance at the BBC Proms. After being offered scholarships from both the Guildhall School of Music & Drama and the Royal Northern College of Music, Michael is now studying at the Guildhall with professors Steven Hudson, Timothy Rundle and Jane Marshall. He has since performed with Guildhall Chamber and Symphony Orchestras, the Ubu Ensemble and in the Guildhall opera and end of year musical, as well as taking on other freelance playing work outside of the school. In 2017 Michael was awarded the cor anglais seat in the Young Musicians Symphony Orchestra for the 2017-18 season. Aside from orchestral playing, Michael also performs as a soloist and as a chamber musician.
