Pianist, arranger, musical director and collaborator from Hertfordshire with an ever-growing passion for new, fresh music.

Since beginning his undergraduate studies at The Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in 2015, he has become a frequent performer, compère and curator within the Cardiff music scene and beyond. Playing across genres, Michael manages to whole-heartedly embrace the particular energies of the music he plays, whilst retaining his own unique musical signature and character. This is clear in both his solo piano and ensemble arrangements, in which he brings together influences from his eclectic musical background and the rich history of jazz music: from folk, pop, blues and swing to be-bop, funk and jazz fusion. Michael has lead and performed in a huge number of groups and settings, for private functions, corporate conferences and dinners, weddings and parties. From his fusion organ trio and jazz quartets to his 11-piece ABBA tribute, Michael's experience puts him in the perfect position to adapt to whichever musical scenario with which he is presented, with reliable assurance and commitment to that particular genre. He also has experience in musical theatre and with live performance software such as Mainstage and Cantabile.

Customer questions

What if my timings change after I've booked you?

I understand that plans can change in the lead up to an event. Just let me know in good time and we can make a new plan together.

Can you provide an iPod/DJ service before and between your sets?

Yes. Bespoke playlists for your event for before and between my sets is included in the service at no extra charge. I cannot, however, provide a DJ service.

How much time do you need to set up?

I will usually arrive at the venue between 45 and 60 minutes before the event to make sure everything is in place in good time before starting. My actual set up time, however, is only about 10 minutes, so I'm flexible to your schedule!

If I have a piano at my venue, are you happy to perform on that?

Yes, of course - as long as the piano is in working order and in tune, then I'm happy to play on it! I will decide upon arrival and take into account the size of the room, number of guests etc. Sometimes an amplified instrument is needed for larger spaces.

Can I pick the songs you play from the set list?

Yes. Any favourites you spot in my list I will make sure to include them in the set.

Are you able to bring your own piano or keyboard?

Yes. I will have my keyboard and PA with me.

Can you learn song requests before the event?

Any songs that aren't on my repertoire list, I am happy to learn a couple for you. Just let me know a in good time before the event at the point of booking.

What do your clients love most about your performances?

My experience and diverse musical background enables me to craft a bespoke set of music for each event to which I am invited; making my performances unique, interactive and lively - feeding off the energy in the room and turning it into music.

Which venues have you performed at in the past?

Locally, in Cardiff: St. David's Hall, The Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, The Senedd, The Exchange Hotel and other small venues in the city centre. Further afield: The Southbank Centre, London; Bimhuis, Amsterdam; British Embassy, Paris.

Which artists have you been most influenced by?

Bill Evans, Oscar Peterson, Ahmad Jamal, Hank Jones - to name but a few. My influences range from these greats to more modern players such as Vijay Iyer, Brad Meldau, Kit Downes and Steve Khun. And of course my teacher Huw Warren!

What is the most high profile gig you've performed?

I recently had the pleasure of performing for HRH The Prince of Wales at The Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama for his birthday in late 2018; a royal treat!
