Matthew is a versatile cellist based in Birmingham, comfortable in Baroque, Classical, Contemporary, Pop, Folk and Jazz.

Matthew Phillips is a cellist born in Liverpool. Having started to play the cello at age 8, he has since gained experience playing with Liverpool Philharmonic Youth Orchestra, Liverpool Mozart Orchestra and the Metropolitan Concert Society, and appearing as a soloist with Cressington Orchestra. Keen on branching out into pop and alternative music, in 2017 Matthew began playing cello in live performances for ASTLES, and recording on, and arranging for multiple EPs. Other projects include working with St Jude the Obscure, and Eden Longson's Retromodern Omniphonic Orchestra, with performances at Liverpool International Music Festival, SoundCity and Oslo Mela. Matthew is currently studying at Royal Birmingham Conservatoire with Ulrich Heinen, where he enjoys exploring chamber music repertoire with various ensembles.
