About Lynne

Experienced pit and orchestral player, more than happy to "dep"!
Flautist
Lyndhurst

I started music lessons at the age of 10yrs, initially recorder at school, then private lessons (recorder & piano) and percussion and viola through the area music service. On starting secondary school the opportunity to learn the flute presented itself and again through the music service and by promising to keep the viola going so that I could play it in the Youth Orchestra they agreed I could learn the flute too! The flute rapidly became my preferred instrument and was to become my 1st study. I did a specialist preparatory music course at Lewes Technical College between 16 & 18 yrs which provided a music college style of education in order to prepare for full time music education. I finally finished my training at the RCM in 1984 (which included singing in Sir David Wilcocks chamber choir) and became a secondary teacher in state schools. I taught in several different schools and was Head of Department in a large comprehensive. I then worked as a full time peripatetic music teacher for the East Sussex Music Service and became a senior leader for Portsmouth Music Service when I first moved to Hampshire in 2010. Throughout my teaching career I have maintained a playing career too, frequently playing for different orchestras and adult amateur dramatic societies, one of which I also MD'd for. I have much experience of instrumental teaching from beginners to post Grade 8 and of conducting youth groups from small ensembles to wind orchestras, running workshops and summer school courses. I have also put on a number of production in schools. I taught music at a special school in Portsmouth which was something totally different to anything I had previously done and was extremely rewarding. I am currently working as an instrumental teacher for the Southampton Music Service and enjoy regularly playing both Sax and Flute. I am a lead Sax for Pops Inc Uk, (full orchestra) and the Pops Big Band. I am the flautist with the Courtyard Quintet and play with The Charity Symphony Orchestra, Southampton Concert Orchestra and Fluticity. I regularly play at Weddings both during the ceremony (usually flute) and afterwards while photos are being taken or during the meal (usually sax).
