Violin-Saxophone-Piano trio - based in Brussels (BE)

Kugoni Trio is a young and unique ensemble, born at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels in 2010. Kurt Bertels (saxophone), Bert Koch (piano) and Nicolas Dupont (violin) met in their common enthusiasm for energetic chamber music and fresh contemporary repertoire. The trio has already performed pieces by Ida Gotkovsky, Dmitri Shostakovich, Astor Piazzolla, Paul Hindemith and many others. Because of their great interest in Belgian music, Kugoni Trio already commissioned works by Jan Van Damme, Jan Van Landeghem, Jeroen d’Hoe, Hanne Deneire, Wilfried Westerlinck, Paul Steegmans, Benjamien Lycke, Bernd Van Hulle and Erik Desimpelaere, and is also frequently performing existing pieces by Belgian composers such as Paul Gilson, Franz Constant and Wouter Lenaerts. In Belgium, the Kugoni Trio has been playing in halls such as the ‘Henry Leboeuf’ hall of the ‘Palais des Beaux-Arts’ (Bozar) in Brussels, the ‘Academiezaal’ in Sint-Truiden, the ‘Concertgebouw’ of Bruges or ‘AMUZ’ in Antwerp, and they were invited to perform during festivals such as ‘Iedereen Klassiek’ (Bruges), ‘Cultuurmarkt’ (Antwerp), ‘KlaraFestival’ (Brussels), BumaClassical (Utrecht) and ‘Festival Van Vlaanderen’ (Kortrijk). Furthermore they have been performing on numerous occasions in the Netherlands and Germany. Kugoni Trio has recorded for Radio Klara (Flemish classical radio), Musiq3 (Walloon classical radio), Radio 4 (Dutch classical radio) and has been on Belgian television (Cultuur7 and Canvas). Their first CD 'fingerprints' will be released in October 2016. The trio recently became a laureate of Supernova (previously Gouden Vleugels) in November 2013 and was the first prize winner at the Forte-competition in February 2015.
