About Joshua

Clarinettist in Oxford and the South East
Clarinettist
Worthing

Joshua started playing clarinet aged 14, and under the tuition of Keir Rowe received a distinction in Grade 8 and Diploma level performance within 4 years. Throughout these years, he played in the local Petersfield Orchestra, Rehearsal Orchestra, and the National Youth Wind Orchestra of Great Britain. During his gap year, he was prinicipal clarinettist at Newcastle University Symphony Orchestra, which performed Britten's War Requiem at the Sage Gateshead with baritone Sir Thomas Allen. At Oxford University, studying under Paul Harris, he has played with the University Orchestra, Wind Orchestra, Sinfonietta, Ripieno Players and Consortium Novum, performing works such as Mahler's 7th Symphony, Haydn's 'The Creation' and Stravinsky's 'Rite of Spring'. As webmaster for both the University Orchestra and University Music Society, Joshua has also enjoyed promoting these events to a wide audience. During his time at Somerville College, Joshua formed the Woodstock Quintet, which has performed clarinet quintet repertoire throughout Oxford. He has also been an active member of the Somerville College Music Society, helping to organise a performance of Mozart's 'Gran Partita' Wind Serenade and concert venues for the Somerville College Choir tour of the USA. For his contributions to college music he was awarded a Margaret Irene Seymour instrumental award, and a Choral Scholarship for Somerville College Choir.
