Jon Sterckx

Jon Sterckx is an innovative tabla player & percussionist with 30+ years experience of working with world percussion & is equally at home playing traditional world music forms and more contemporary ‘fusion’ music. In Drumscapes, his solo live sampling performances, Jon skilfully brings percussion from across the globe together with 21st century technology in a unique blend of rhythmic soundscapes, bouncy world rhythms & high energy drumming. Jon’s sitar & tabla duo Samswara won the ‘Best Group’ award in the MTM Asian & Ethnic Minorities Awards 2014. Jon works as a freelance musician – performer, instrumental teacher, session musician and teaches and delivers workshops in schools & colleges. Jon was an Associate Lecturer in music at the University of Plymouth 2003-2017. Jon has played & recorded sessions for musicians & producers from around the globe, including 2x Grammy winning composer Christopher Tin (alongside Royal Philharmonic Orchestra & mixed at Abbey Road), Grammy Nominated producer Arun Shenoy & UK Folk Award winners Phil Henry & Hannah Martin. Jon has performed at: Festivals including: WOMAD, London International Arts Festival, Musicport, Rhythmtree, Larmertree, Beautiful Days, MondoMix, Green Gathering, Kaya Festival, Pulse Festival, Big Chill, Sunrise, Waveform, Plymouth Respect, Exeter Respect.
