Icaris are a flute and guitar duo based in Cardiff, South Wales. They began performing as a duo in 2010 while they were both completing Masters degrees at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. It was here that they found a shared passion for bringing the music for this combination to a wider audience in an approachable style. Since their formation, the Icaris Duo has quickly established themselves as a versatile and dynamic ensemble, who have taken their music to a number of wide-ranging venues. They have been a part of the Live Music Now scheme since April 2012 and have since been accepted as artists for Music in Hospitals and Superact. The duo were also selected as winners of the June Emerson Launchpad Prize for emerging ensembles in 2012. They have been invited to perform as part of the lunchtime concert series at St Martin in the Fields, as well as at the St David’s Cathedral Festival, St. Donats’ Arts Centre and the Arcomis International Flute Festival. Icaris also enjoy working alongside composers to create new works for the ensemble which has led to a number of première performances in the UK.
It has been our pleasure to have the Icaris Flute and Guitar Duo come and perform at the St Martins Concert Series on four occasions. They have proved to be one of the most popular concerts that we hold each year. Victoria and Will are also lovely people and always have time to talk to the audience before and after the concerts which is massively appreciated. The concert series attracts people from all different backgrounds and of all ages as noted in their last concert where the youngest attendee was 12 weeks old and the oldest in her 92 year and great time was had by all. We look forward to them returning again next year.
Vicky and Will have performed at our Christmas concerts to support the Haven breast cancer support centre in Hereford for the last two years. Their wonderful arrangements of well-known tunes are absolutely beautiful - they are always the highlight of our concerts and the audiences always ask us to invite them back each year!
