Bath Born and Based, Guy Hobley is a vibrant Jazz and Blues saxophonist playing with various big band and small groups around the south west. Beginning music lessons at the age of 9 on both clarinet and piano, Guy soon started to Immerse himself within the musical environment that surrounded him, taking part in various outreach projects such as the Wind Café ran by Karen Street and Andy Tweed. At the Age of 13 Guy passed auditions to play with Frome Symphony and Somerset County Youth Concert Band which both broadened and expanded his listening and gave him a variety of playing styles and experience. With the tuition of his teacher Julie Britton Guy achieved grade 8 clarinet at the age of 15 obtaining 96% overall. Through the diverse musical culture surrounding Guy within Frome, he has had the opportunity to play alongside and learn from Mike Mower, Pee-Wee Ellis, John Law and Iain Ballamy. During his time at university Guy was encouraged to learn Saxophone and since then has been awarded a Bursary from the Taunton Maids fund towards his saxophone to help with personal development throughout his academic career. Guy’s Main music focus at the moment is his professional Jazz Quartet/Quintet ‘HQ’ which play a variety of original compositions and jazz standards.
