Hello there, I'm Gillian- A friendly Irish pianist/accompanist/music educator currently based in Glasgow. If you would like to learn more about me, please keep reading.... Gillian recently completed her postgraduate studies at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland with a Masters in Piano Accompaniment (MMus) under scholarship. In 2014 she graduated from Trinity College Dublin and the Royal Irish Academy of Music with first class honours and a commendation (B.Mus.Ed). She also hols a Licenciate diploma in piano performance from the Royal Schools of Music (LRSM) and an Associate diploma in piano teaching from the Royal Irish Academy of Music (ARIAM). She works as an accompanist in both Scotland and Ireland and enjoys collaborations with both instrumentalists and singers. Gillian is a keen a choral accompanist. She was the 2017 Associate Accompanist for NYCOS National Boys Choir and the Assistant Accompanist for the the AOIC International Choral Conducting Summer School 2016. She is the 2017/2018 official accompanist for the award winning all female choir Les Sirènes, and Westerton Male Voice Choir(WMVC). Gillian is passionate about music education, and particularly Kodaly inspired teaching and learning. She has taught both instrumental and classroom music at both primary and secondary level. During her undergraduate studies in Music Education, she was awarded a TCD Commendation award for excellence in teaching.. She previously taught at Carlow College of Music, Willow Park School and with Music Generation Carlow. Gillian was studies Kodaly musicianship and methodology under the tuition of Lucinda Geoghegan during her postgraduate studies at RCS. She also participated in the RCS Erasmus plus initiative, which generously funded study trips to Koninklijk Conservatorium Den Haag (Netherlands), and the Liszt Academy (Hungary), observing Kodaly inspired music education in the classroom. Gillian has an eclectic taste in music, and alongside classical she enjoys improvising and playing music of many genres. She studied traditional piano under the tuition of James Ross at RCS during her postgraduate studies. Gillian has been very generously supported throughout her postgraduate studies and would like to acknowledge the RCS scholarship fund, EMI Sound Music foundation, Arts Links Emerging Artists, Carlow Arts Council Arts Act Award, Arts council Travel and Training Award, the Kathleen Trust and the Stapley Educational Trust Scholarship. Gillian is the 2016/2017 recipient of the RCS Sam Hutchings Accompaniment Fellowship, and is hugely grateful to the generosity of the Hutchings family.
