Gerda Kocsis is a Hungarian double bass player currently finishing her masters degree at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire. She has a passion for playing in an orchestra, but also performing solo and chamber music. After receiving her Bachelor degree at the Liszt Academy of Music, she decided to move to the United Kingdom to study with Professor Thomas Martin. She participated in competitions as well as the the National Double bass Competition where she received 1. prize and the prize for the best performance of the obligatory piece and she got 1. prize at the International Dittersdorf Double bass competition too. She was the double bassist of the Divertimento Chamber Orchestra for 3 years, and played in many orchestras since: Oxford Philharmonic Pro Anima Orchestra Royal Birmingham Conservatoire's Symphony Orchestra Vac Civitas Symphonic Orchestra Hungarian Radio Orchestra Budapest Strings Orchestra Next to many orchestral concerts, she enjoys performing solo pieces with her pianist, Hsuan-Hsuan Lee and has a passion for teaching.
