My earlier impressions about the art of Gabor Birta are now enriched with new colours through the fact that his instrument is not only for playing grand opera or dramatic scenes but ‘cheer’ without any sarcasm and humour as well … He proved us: the musical as genre stems from the traditional art songs… ‘Countertenor or what you will’ – sounds the title of the show. Each member of the full house audience can definitely answer: we will shows of this standard – even much more, please.

In the role of Arsamenes, brother of Xerxes, Gabor Birta, the Hungarian countertenor had a hair style which was short on one side and long on the other, as an external sign of his maladjusted existence. His singing technique is perfect and ranges widely throughout the alto compass.
