About Forbes

Solo and chamber pianist, studying Law.
Pianist
Cambridge

Forbes first attempted to play the piano when he was two years old, but had to wait impatiently until he was six to receive formal lessons. He was awarded a place for piano and cello at the Royal Academy of Music Junior Department when he was ten, where he has since devoted his Saturdays to developing his musicianship skills and a wide piano repertoire with his teacher, Druvi de Saram. Despite breaking both wrists in late 2006, he persevered through his grades, passing ABRSM Grade 8 Piano with Distinction when he was twelve, and his ABRSM Diploma in Piano Performance with Distinction at age sixteen. Principally a keyboard performer – playing piano, jazz piano and harpsichord – Forbes is also a former chorister and cellist, occasionally composing as a amateur hobby. He has given solo piano performances at the Wigmore Hall, Banqueting House, St John's Smith Square and the Royal Academy of Music, and has been a winner of the Iris Dyer Piano Prize, a Minns Young Musician Finalist, and was the Bournemouth Music Festival Junior Pianist of 2011. He has played in a number of piano ensembles, in Baroque trios and quartets on Harpsichord, and in various Jazz Bands. Most recently, he performed Liszt and Chopin at St John's Smith Square. His specialities are Clementi, Beethoven, Chopin and Rachmaninoff, but Scriabin above all holds a special place in his heart. In his spare time, Forbes enjoys badminton, dance, and Billy Joel, and is an avid film buff. He has studied piano with Druvi de Saram, Andrew Law, and Heather Slade-Lipkin.
