About Fitzwilliam College Chapel Choir

Fitzwilliam College Chapel Choir has established a high reputation in recent years, both for its music-making and its welcoming atmosphere.
Cambridge

The Chapel Choir comprises about twenty-four male and female undergraduate and postgraduate students from Fitzwilliam. The choir's main duty is to provide music for the weekly evening service, held in the award-winning College Chapel, which boasts some of the best choral acoustics in the university. However, there are also plenty of opportunities for concerts, both inside and outside College. Works performed include Pergolesi's Stabat Mater and Requiems by Mozart, Brahms and Durufle. The choir also visits local churches and cathedrals (including St Edmundsbury, Ely and Norwich, for example) to sing Evensong. In addition, the choir provides entertainment at formal dinners and undertakes tours both within the UK and overseas - including Italy, Spain, The Netherlands and France. The choir rehearses twice a week, on Thursday evenings and before services on Sunday afternoons. The music sung covers a wide variety of genres, from Renaissance motets to contemporary works. In March 2006 the choir recorded its first CD, Songs on the Hill, covering a range of music from both sacred and secular repertoire, and a follow-up CD of Christmas carols was released, with a further disc due in 2014.
