Emma is a recent graduate of Oxford University, and is an experienced teacher, recorder player and violinist.

Emma graduated from The Queen’s College, Oxford, in 2018, with a first-class degree in music. At Oxford she studied a wide range of topics, including historical, socio-political and philosophical branches of musicology. Emma was a Joan Conway performance scholar with the Faculty of Music; as such, she regularly appeared around Oxford as a recorder player and a violinist, in performances ranging from solo recitals of early music to a production of an original space-themed opera with young adults with autistic-spectrum conditions. Emma was also closely involved with running The Bate Players and The Eglesfield Musical Society. Emma currently studies the recorder with Annabel Knight, having previously learned with Sarah Humphrys and Gail McLeod at the Junior Department of the Royal College of Music. Shortly after joining the RCM, Emma achieved a high distinction in her ABRSM Performance Diploma. Emma was heavily involved in RCM’s early music department, winning the Freda Dinn Memorial Prize for her contribution. She was also the recipient of the John Wills Historical Studies Prize. Performance highlights include playing the Vivaldi C minor (RV 441) and C major (RV 443) concerti with orchestra, featuring as a soloist in multiple performances of J. S. Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto No. 4, and participating in masterclasses with Dan Laurin and Susanna Borsch. Emma was also a violinist at the RCM, and enjoys the variety that this has brought to her musical career. Highlights have included performances at Cadogan Hall and St. John’s Smith Square in London, masterclasses with Nicola Benedetti and Pieter Schoeman, orchestral playing under Vladimir Ashkenazy, and a recent introduction to historical violin performance with Bojan Čičić and The Instruments of Time and Truth. Emma has taught music theory, recorder and violin for a number of years, and is excited to dedicate more time to this now that she has graduated from university.
