Customer questions

What if my timings change after I've booked you?

No problem....as long as I can get my train home! ;-)

Can you provide an iPod/DJ service before and between your sets?

No. Not the sort of events that I do.

How much time do you need to set up?

I assume that you will have a PA with mikes for me and know how it works. I usually don't need more than 5-10 minutes to set up.

Can I pick the pieces you play from the set list?

After the years of performance, I'm pretty good at choosing what auduences enjoy. That said, if you know my repertoire and particularly want me to sing a particular song, fine. remember, I perform for listening audiences only. Cabaret. No background music or music to dance to.

Do you bring all the equipment you need to perform?

I only bring my guitar.

Can you learn specific pieces before the event?

Rarely needed, but I can if required and it's the sort of song that I sing.

What do your clients love most about your performances?

It depends. Straight music gigs, it's the quality of my Jazz singing and solos. When it's more comedy, then the silliness of my comedy. ALWAYS music, though. I don't do stand-up.

Which venues have you performed at in the past?

Royal Albert Hall, Royal Festival Hall, London Palladium, Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club, The Apollo, New York....many more...to numerous to list.

Which artists have you been most influenced by?

Hmmm...Music...Probably Joao Gilberto, Peggy Lee, Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, Mel Tormé. Comedy? I don't know...Tom Lehrer maybe.

What is the most high profile gig you've performed?

Touring as opening act for Paul McCartney - Roskilde and Midfyn Festivals (60,000 people) - entertaining the Queen - entertaining the Royal Family of Sweden...

This was the last night of this year’s EFG London Jazz Festival and it was a total pleasure to be at the closing event of the The Pheasantry, What I saw tonight was one of my highlights of the whole festival!! In this gig we definitely had not just a true Jazz treasure but a real living legend in the form of EARL OKIN. This unique London character, is a real artist totally at ease with himself on and off the stage, delivering two sets of pure magic! You could literally hear a pin drop throughout the gig, with Earl having the audience spellbound! I know there was a young singer in the audience who was totally captivated by Earl's stage presence. EARL also invited in each set a very special guest Paul Ryan who was joined at the piano by Kenny Clayton. The contrast between the Earl and Paul was noticeable, as Earl presented a varied mix of numbers on both his guitar and piano, swapping between the two, while Paul stuck to his tried and tested crooner formula of the straight ahead standards. The audience demanded a encore and Earl invited up both Paul and Kenny to join him on the final number. The packed out house was treated to two sets of a masterclass in how to deliver a show! With over 1 million YouTube views and countless TV appearances to his name Earl performed a gig that will live long in the memory.
