Dulwich Choral Society
About Dulwich Choral Society
Rehearsals, workshops and concerts We work in parallel with the school terms. We rehearse the current programme every Monday evening and perform a concert at the end of term. The year runs from September to July with breaks for Christmas, Easter and half-term. Holiday dates are announced at the start of each term and full details are on our members pages. We usually perform at least three concerts a year, including two with professional orchestras and top-class soloists. We have occasional Saturday workshops which are rewarding and enjoyable opportunities to spend a day engaging with wonderful music in greater depth and with more time to explore than our shorter Monday rehearsals permit. In recent workshops Aidan has been joined by Norbert Meyn (pictured), who gave a fascinating and hugely engaging guide to the Brahms German Requiem, and for the Bach Christmas Oratorio by Robert Rice (Eton Choral Courses; National Youth Choir of Great Britain) who led the warm-ups and coached us on the singing of the music of Bach. Overseas tours As well as giving concerts in the Dulwich area, the choir has performed more widely both in central London and abroad. Since the first overseas concert tour in 1998 we have visited Belgium, the Czech Republic, France, Italy, Germany, Estonia & Portugal, performing in a number of prestigious venues. A tour to Bosnia-Herzegovina in 2004 included concerts in Sarajevo and Mostar. Our most recent overseas tour was to Portugal in October 2014, when we performed in some very beautiful venues in Lisbon and Sintra.
