EPISCANARIUS Brass Quintet was formed by Dennis Frere-Smith in 2019 in Norwich, Norfolk. As a freelance trumpeter working in many diverse areas of the music business I wanted to form a small, versatile group that would be able to perform for many different occasions. I soon found the ideal format of two Trumpets, myself and Thomas Carr, Lynne Roberts on French Horn, Toby Carr on Trombone and Joseph Bohn on Tuba. The ensemble was created so that we could begin to bring the joy of top quality brass music to as wide a variety of people as possible. To date we have performed at both public and private events and have been preparing our new repertoire for a series of recitals and recordings in 2022.

Customer questions

Do you have different line-up options?

The Episcanarius line-up is 2 Trumpets, French Horn, Trombone and Tuba. I also offer a Brass Quartet for Christmas Carols and community songs.

What if my timings change after I've booked you?

We always try our best to be flexible to help ensure your event runs as smoothly as possible. If timings change slightly in the run up to the event just let us know.

Can you provide an iPod/DJ service before and between your sets?

I can provide a choice of music from my iPod during planned intervals if you require and it is a free service. Feel free to discuss the options with me at any time.

How much time do you need to set up?

We usually set up about 1 to 1.5 hours before the performance time. As soon as our PA is set up we can provide a free playlist service to help set the atmosphere and get your guests ready for our live performance.

Can you roam around while you perform?

No, we are static group either sitting or standing.

Can I pick the songs you play from the set list?

I always select the music to suit the event/venue and then discuss any other suggestions with the organiser(s). Episcanarius are experienced at being flexible during the performances as well.
