Clare Elton is a composer and trumpet player based in London. She is currently studying towards her Masters in composition at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama, generously supported by the Guildhall School Trust, a Vaughan Williams Bursary and she was also a Sydney Vale Scholar. Born in Leicester, Clare studied at the Purcell School of Music for two years with the trumpet as her principal study. She then went onto study music for her undergraduate degree at Royal Holloway, University of London with an instrumental scholarship, and she graduated in 2014 with a first-class honours. In 2015, she then began a Masters in composition at Guildhall School of Music & Drama studying with Matthew Kaner, and she is due to graduate in late 2018. Clare’s music has been performed by ensembles such as EXAUDI vocal ensemble, Plus-Minus Ensemble, and Psappha Ensemble, and she has had her music performed at venues including Wigmore Hall and Milton Court Concert Hall. She has collaborated with writers and choreographers on numerous projects. For instance, she has composed the music for an immersive chamber opera in collaboration with writer Lila Palmer and workshOPERA performed at the London Transport Museum, and worked with choreographer Robert Hemming and the London Contemporary Dance School on a project performed at The Place in 2016. More recently Clare has had a fanfare performed in the Barbican, which was recorded live on BBC Radio 3.
