About Chaudière Quartet
The Chaudière String Quartet was formed in August 2014 at Chetham's School of Music. The violinist's and cellist are studying at the Royal College of Music and the violist at the Royal College of Music. Although this creates a few logistical problems they still rehearse several times per week and the members have stayed together because of their strong friendship and desire to make music together. The Quartet, although having only been together for just over a year, has participated in many concerts, most notably their performance of Shostakovich String Quartet No.7 at Wigmore Hall. This was awarded to the ensemble during the National String Quartet Weekend, where they competed against several well established groups. Success in small scale competitions has given them the opportunity to perform throughout the U.K and for organisations such as Norwich Chamber Society, Music at Dingley and Rhyl Music Club. Having done lots of outreach work with school children has provided experience working with different age groups. Corporate events, weddings and backround music have also been an important part of their development as a quartet. Whilst at Chetham's , they have taken part in an exchange program with a Lithuanian quartet and an experienced quartet from the Baratt Due institute in Oslo. During the exchange the quartet gave multiple performances of Mendelssohn's String Octet in and around Oslo as well as the UK, whilst gaining valuable experience working with other groups. Other Collaborations include playing quintets and sextets such as Elgar and Brahms respectively, More recently they have also had masterclasses with The Carducci Quartet and Doric String Quartet. The next step will include entering prestigious competitions and building up a wide range of repertoire. Under the guidance of David Smith, they hope to achieve more success in the future and delve further into the realm of chamber music.
