Caolan Walpot graduated from the Guildhall School of Music & Drama with his Bachelor of Music in July 2016, where he studied under Charlotte Seale. Caolan began playing the harp at the age of 9. He was first taught by his father Luc Walpot and then learnt with Catherine White. In 2011, he was awarded a scholarship to the Purcell School of Music, where he started studying under Charlotte Seale. Caolan has performed as a soloist in numerous venues in London and across the country and with the Purcell Symphony Orchestra and the Guildhall Symphony Orchestra in venues such as the Royal Festival Hall, Queen Elizabeth Hall and the Barbican Hall. Caolan is an enthusiastic chamber musician and with a range of ensembles he has performed in numerous churches and different venues in London, including the Wigmore Hall. Masterclasses include Marisa Robles, Florence Sitruk, Helga Stork, Hugh Webb, Anneleen Lenaerts, Sioned Williams, Katherine Thomas, Alison Martin and Sivan Magan. Aside from the pedal harp, Caolan also plays the modern-day clarsach and a Queen Mary harp, which is a wire strung early Irish harp. Caolan has a passionate interest in the ancient harp music of Ireland. He took lessons on his Queen Mary harp from Andrew Lawrence King at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. Caolan has been the first prize winner in several competitions. Caolan won first prize for three consecutive years at the Devon Performing A&B Festival in the harp category (2008 – 2010). In May 2013, Caolan received first prize in the North London Festival of Music in the Advanced Harp Class. In November 2013, Caolan won first prize in the Beckenham Music Festival in the Advanced Harp Class.
