The Ballet Opera Players is a London based ensemble specialising in Ballet and Opera repertoire. We perform with top quality singers and dancers for functions, weddings, corporate events, concerts, chamber recitals and small scale ballet and opera productions. The ensemble members have been working together on the London opera scene since 2010. Founded by clarinettist Ross Newton and composer/arranger Danyal Dhondy, the core players are highly experienced in arrangements of the ballet and opera repertoire. Previous productions include: Madama Butterfly - OperaUpClose, 2010-11; Pagliacci - OperaUpClose, 2011; Tosca - OperaUpClose, 2012; Hansel and Gretel – OperaInSpace, 2013; La Boheme - Head First Productions, 2014; Don Giovanni – St Paul’s Opera, July 2015. Concerts | Weddings | Functions We can tailor a performance of your favourite arias from our database of operas including Puccini's La Boheme, Tosca and Madame Butterfly, Mozart's Don Giovanni and Leoncavallo's Pagliacci. Any further operas, ballets, arias, scenes etc. can be arranged for your event as requested. Productions Our instrumentation of violin, clarinet, 'cello and piano provides a full ensemble sound for vocalists and dancers to perform against. This setup is ideal for small opera and ballet productions as it is a cost effective alternative to a full orchestra while still evoking an orchestral atmosphere. We offer a complete package for the accompaniment of your ballet or opera production. Our quartet can: - Work with your musical director or we can provide one as requested - Offer services with or without a conductor - Organise a full arranging service of works in the public domain, or rights can be negotiated - Work with the commission of new works Reviews "Elspeth Wilkes's lush playing, along with Ross Newton on Clarinet and Danyal Dhondy on viola, describe a complex musical world. Melodies and counter-melodies dance among the three instruments and create waves of sound" - Christopher Adams, Remotegoat "The accompaniment for clarinet, cello and piano is brilliantly done and executed.” - Catherine Ashmore - The Spectator "The trio offers accomplished playing and, in this instrumentation, is able to suggest the lush, late-romantic orchestral idiom.” - Robert Workman - Time Out "The cello and clarinet effortlessly weave their emotion into the spectacle." - FLM, Fringe Review
