Acoustic duo
Ledbury
Public liability insurance of £1 million
Acoustic duo, guitar, flute, saxophones and voices, very experienced performers since 2010. Folk, jazz, pop, classical.

As a duo, Appleby Stone continue the music of the four-piece group Appleby Kinsey which formed in 2010, performing a rich mix of genres, including a large repertoire of beautiful original songs written by Catherine Kinsey. Appleby Stone produce a glorious, classy sound covering pop, R&B, classic and contemporary jazz, swing, Latin, folk, and even some classical instrumentals from all modern musical eras. Frequently they are joined by the hugely talented and experienced Paul Smith on double bass. Ken Appleby began playing guitar in his early teens using an instrument his older brother brought back from a school trip to Spain. After years trying to play like John Renbourn and Bert Jansch, and on the advice of Robin Williamson of The Incredible String Band who he met in McCabe's guitar shop in Santa Monica, he switched to trying to play like himself and got better results. With many years of experience performing and arranging he now has very much his own style and is the band's principle music arranger. He has co-written and arranged many songs with Catherine Kinsey as part of Appleby Kinsey. A naturally gifted musician, Emma Stone has been playing flute since the age of 8 and saxophone since the age of 14. She is a virtuosic improviser, a talented and sensitive interpreter of songs and a superb vocalist. She also has a wonderful ability to bring together and nurture musical ideas from the musicians she works with. She has hundreds of performances under her belt including the main stage at the Cheltenham Jazz Festival. Emma was educated at Dartington College from where she received a degree in Music Performance. On double bass and bass guitar Paul Smith brings a mountain of experience and considerable talent to the ensemble. His superb technical and musical skills give his playing a beautiful fluency and openness, and his feel for the music is apparent from the opening bars of every song on which he plays. In rehearsal he also contributes a wealth of creative ideas and herbal tea. Paul has been playing bass for around 40 years, which works out at 10 years per string. His 60th birthday present was a vintage bass roughly twice his age. The bass has played behind the likes of Humphrey Lyttleton, Chris Barber, Lonnie Donegan and even, on one occasion, Ella Fitzgerald.
