Ami Oprenova, a Bulgarian Composer, Jazz Vocalist and Violinist, has graduated from Birmingham Conservatoire before coming to London to study Jazz at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. She has sang with many Jazz bands such as the Nova Sisters, DB Big Band, Sambuca Diaries Big Band and the Soul Survivors. She has won the Prize for “Best Vocal Improvisation” in Gorna Oriqhovitsa, Bulgaria. She was been taught by Joe Broughton, Pete Daley, Martin Riley, Lee Gibson and Malcolm Edmonstone. She has performed at some major festivals as part of the Conservatoire Folk Ensemble as a Violinist and Lead Vocalist. Some of them include Shambala Festival, Towersey Festival, Fairport's Cropedy Convention and Warwick Folk Festival. She has also performed at venues such as Town Hall Birmingham, Symphony Hall Birmingham and the Royal Albert Hall. TEACHING • Heartlands Academy – teaching song-writing and Sibelius 7 skills to Year 8 students 2014 • Shades Music – Piano and Violin to children and adults ages 7 to 35 2014 • Private teaching – teaching Violin to ages 5+ 2013 AWARDS/ACHEIEVEMENTS • Awarded a scholarship from Birmingham Conservatoire 2011 • Awarded an Outstanding Performance Award at The Bernard Statman Memorial Prize for Chamber Music 2011 • Awarded FIRST PRIZE at the ‘Annual Solfeggio Competition; ‘Prof. Kamen Popdimitrov’ founded in 1993’ 2010 • Awarded Second Prize and a 1 year Scholarship at the XX National Violin Competition ‘Vurban Vurbanov’ for Performance of a Bulgarian Musical Compositions 2010 • Awarded the Special Prize for Vocal improvisation in ‘Gorna Oriahovitsa’ for the song ‘I got Rhythm’ 2010 • Awarded the “Specialty Theory of Music’ prize at the International Competition ‘Young Virtuosos’, 2009 • Passed Grade 8 Violin with Distinction at age 14 2006 PERFORMANCES and EXPERIENCE • Composition degree Final Year project - Organised and performed a charity concert of Bulgarian-Jazz Fusion, featuring the ‘Dunnett/Baxter Big Band’, ‘Nova Sisters’ and George Stuart 2015 • Organised and ran a self-employed band ‘Nova Sisters’ present • First Violinist of ‘Leto Quartet’ and ‘Four Seas Quartet’ present • Toured around the UK with Joe Broughton’s ‘Conservatoire Folk Ensemble’ 2013 • Played at ‘Fairport’s Cropredy Convention’ Festival to an audience of 20,000+ 2014 • Became Lead Vocalist of ‘Sambuca Diaries’ and the ‘Dunnett/Baxter Big Band’ 2013 • Performed with the Birmingham Conservatoire Pops Orchestra as a Solo Vocalist 2013 • Was accepted in ‘CBSO Youth Orchestra’ 2012 • Became Leader of the Birmingham Repertoire Orchestra 2012 • Performer at a variety of concerts with the ‘Sofia Children’s Philharmonic Orchestra’ and ‘Sophia Youth Philharmonic Orchestra’, in Bulgaria and abroad as the Leader of Second Violins. 2003–2011 • Organiser of ‘Musical Evening with a Bulgarian flavour in 2 parts: Classical and Bulgarian National folk music’ at Upton House, Tetbury 2009 • Organiser and performer at a Solo Fundraising Concert in Worcester, Massachusetts at age 14 2006 • First performance at the age of 6 with the Sophia Soloist’s Orchestra 1998
